Goals
My goal is to learn more about Biology and Chemistry. I also hope that I will be able to understand the scientific terms and also be able to conduct experiments and observe the things happening carefully. Other than that, I also hope that I will be able to complete the assignments given successfully.

Reflection
In Science, the main focus was about elements and atoms. I also learned about separating mixtures, especially about chromatography. I learned that chromatography is a method to separate pigments from a certain mixture. The topic I chose to explore with my group, which includes Albert, Alessandro, Harimas, Rendy and I, was how different types of paper can affect the Rf (Retardation factor) value of a solute. I had to conduct an experiment and create a lab report about my findings. It included the objectives of the experiment until the improvements and extensions of the experiment. After this assignment, I then started to learn about elements, atoms, compounds, mixtures, the atomic structure, protons, neutrons, electrons, the electron energy level, isotopes, trends in the periodic table and chemical bonding. At the end of the quarter, I had a test about these topics. I was interested in these topics, especially the chromatography experiment, because I had the chance to explore something that I have never known before.

This is my best sample work because I was able to acheive an excellent score even though this was one of the most difficult assignments of the quarter. I was able to put my best effort in this work and also ask the teacher questions if there are things that I do not understand.
I think I did well in following the guidelines in the criterion and also work together with my group. I was able to choose a good objective, construct a good hypothesis, explain the variables, and also design a logical and safe method. I was able to explain each part of the lab report in detail and also sequence it in an organized and logical way. Another thing I did well was in conducting the experiment with my group as we were able to control the variables and follow the method. In the end, our experiment was a success and we were able to find out the answer to the problem.
I can improve this lab report by being more careful when typing the information because there were some errors in the format of the lab report and there were also some pieces of information that were either unclear or incomplete.
This sample work develops my understanding of the global context Scientific Innovation because I was able to explore the laws of chromatography and also its use to the world. I learned that chromatography is a method to seperate pigments and this could be useful for some scientists or researchers. Without the understanding of this law/principle, it could cause some difficulties to scientific research and also to scientific exploration. This is also the reason why before, there will still some things that were not yet discovered because of not knowing this theory. This shows I learned about the system, method and process of chromatography, and also the modernization, industrialization and engineering of the world that led to new scientific discoveries due to existence of the chromatography theory.

Quarter 2
Goals
My goal is to learn more about biology since that is the main focus of this quarter. I hope that I will be attentive to the teacher when she is explaining and also be more careful when doing assignments. Another goal of mine is to become better when doing tests by studying more thoroughly on the day before the test.

Reflection
In this quarter of Science, I learned several topics. The first topic I learned about was diffusion and osmosis. There was a group project in which I had to design and conduct an experiment regarding osmosis. My group, which included Tania, Kristina and I, decided to test the effects of osmosis on an egg. We also had to create a lab report that included all of the information regarding the experiment. We had to state its objective until the improvements/extensions to it. In the end, I think we did well in completing the assignment because the experiment was a success even though there were some errors. After I completed this assignment, I learned about the respiratory system, the plant structure and function, reproduction in flowering plants, and also transport in plants. After we learned all of those topics, there was a test. There was another assignment in which I had to research about a specific type of artificial propagation. Overall, the topics that we learned this quarter gave me a lot of new knowledge because before, I did not really know about the topics.

Field Trip to SEAMEO Biotrop
In order to find more information about artificial propagation, I went on a field trip to a research and development centre named SEAMEO Biotrop located in Tajur, Bogor. Firstly, I watched a profile video of the organisation. I learned that the purpose of their organisation is to provide critical knowledge to preserve ecosystems and also promote education regarding critical biological problems. They also helped in technologies for sorghum, biochemical based inoculants, assessments of aflatoxin BI contamination, clones of the Sengon tree, micro propagation and embryogenesis of cottonii seaweed. Their special initiatives for the next 5 years include conducting programs, creating websites and arranging seminars. Lastly, they helped with the education if people too, such as people pursuing the masters degree and the PhD degree. After that, they explained us about organic compost, which is a material used to fertilise soil. I learned that it is made by dried leaves. I learned about the materials needed to make it and also the step-by-step process in making it. After that, I learned about hydroponics, which is planting using water instead of soil. I learned that the water used for the plants is a special type of water that contains nutrients. The media used is rock wool and the seeds are planted in it. In that place, the plants that they grow using the process of hydroponics include spinach, lettuce and kai lan. The next thing I learned was about a type of artificial propagation, which was tissue culture. I learned about the process of tissue culture, from cutting the tissue of a plant until finally planting the grown plant on normal soil. I learned that in several processes, the abiotic factors must be controlled such as the temperature and pH. The tissue will also need the appropriate hormones to grow but if too much hormone is used, the plant could suffer genetic mutation. I also learned that the main causes of failure is usually because of bacterial contamination. Lastly, I also learned about oyster mushrooms, grafting and stem cutting. In SEAMEO Biotrop, I learned new things about tissue culture because before, I only knew about its theory but when I went there, I saw the process of tissue culture taking place.

This is my best sample work because I got a very good score in a criterion D assignment. I worked together with a partner, who was Sherri, and we chose tissue culture and air layering as our forms of artificial propagation. We researched information about it, including what problems that type of artificial propagation addresses. We also related those types to a factor and we chose the economical factor. We were able to find out the process of those type of artificial propagation. Lastly, we had to research about the positive and negative effects of the artificial propagation in the economical perspective and also find some examples of it.
I think I did well in providing a detailed account of the problem addressed by artificial propagation, including its reasons and causes, and also the way artificial propagation is used to address the problem. I also offered a balanced review clearly with evidence of the implications of using artificial propagation to solve economical problems and also create a conclusion of it. Lastly, I was able to use correct scientific language in the essay and also document my sources completely.
I can improve my essay by being more careful when writing the essay because there were some parts that were unclear. There were also some parts that had no examples and I also need to make sure that I do not pass the word limit. Other than that, I do not think that there is anything that I need to improve.
This sample work develops my understanding of the global context Fairness and Development because I learned about the rights and responsibilities of being a human, which is to take care of the environment, and this was done by learning topics regarding science. I also learned about one of the systems of my body, which was the respiratory system. I learned how human development may change the characteristics of a certain species, such as through the method of artificial propagation, and this may raise arguments whether it benefits the society or brings consequences to the species. I learned about the development of a plant, including the processes of pollination and also germination. I also learned how to preserve the Earth by learning about artificial propagation, which is a method used so that plants are able to reproduce. This shows that I learned about human capability, human development, power, privilege, and also how to create a hopeful future.
