Quarter 1
In Design Technology this quarter, I learned about traditional textiles. I learned about batik and tie-dye, which were two different processes of creating textiles. The first activity we did was researching about our province's traditional textile. Since each of us was given a province, my province was Nusa Tenggara Timur. I learned that tenun is NTT's traditional textile. The next activity was doing batik. Each of us had to research six designs that are related our province and draw it on our piece of cloth. Another activity we did was tie-dye. We tied a cloth using strings and rubbers so that when we dye it, we could create different effects such as radiance. Our final activity was to do a criterion A research about batik and tie-dye.
Sample Work - Criterion A Research
Teacher's Assessment
Final Score: 6/8
This is my best sample work because in this work, I was able to put all of the information I got from the lecture, internet and workshop into this piece of work and in the end, I was able to get a good score.
I did well in this research by being able to analyse the topic and also answer all the questions critically. I was also able to present MLA citation well throughout this piece of work.
I need to improve in creating questions of my own that relates to the topic as I am struggling in doing this every time. I must create questions that will help me improve my piece of work. I also must get information from more resources to verify that the information I got is correct and true.
This sample relates to inquiry as I researched a lot about traditional textiles and I was able to put all of the information into my work. For knowledge, I learned how to do batik and tie-dye and also learn new things about my country's traditional textile.
Quarter 2
In quarter 2, we continued our topic about batik. The first activity we did was creating 4 designs for our final product. We were told to choose one and explain the reasons why we chose that design instead of the others. After that, we did a trial for our final product so that we may test our design to make sure that it would look good. I made some changes to my design and I learned and practiced some batiking skills during this trial. After all of the planning was done, we started creating our final product. Below is the progress journal of my final product batiking process.
Plan and Design
Evidence
Extra Time (Homework)
Day 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (7 Periods)
Day 6 (1 Period)
On this day, I dyed, boiled and cleaned the cloth. I did all of this in just one period so that on Friday, December 12, I could start dyeing the cloth yellow and dry the cloth. I used the resources written in my Gantt chart which were water, naphthol, garam, bucket, boiling pan and also tongs.
Day 7 (1 period)
On this day, I dyed the cloth in yellow. I did this in one period so that I would follow my schedule. I used all of the resources written in my Gantt chart. I also dried the cloth on this day.

Changes
• Any changes to your planning? Why?
Yes, I did made changes to my planning. One thing I changed was that I used an additional resource, which was a ruler, when I drew my design. I did this change because using a ruler was much more easier and I could create straight lines with it. I also added more time when drawing the design because I haven't finished drawing it when I started to wax my cloth. Another change was that I also did some of the waxing after school on Nov 19, Nov 25, Nov 26 and Dec 3 because I knew that 7 periods wasn't enough so I had to do this after school too. I also used an additional resource, which were gloves, when I dyed the cloth. I used these gloves so that my hands will not get dirty and touch the dyes. Other than that, I changed my schedule of dyeing the design because on Dec 5, the dye wasn't ready yet so I had to postpone it to Dec 9.

• Any changes to your design? Why?
Yes, I did made changes to my design. One change was that I made some minor changes to my design because I think that by making it that way, I won't ruin my batik easily. Another change was that I changed the colour of the batik because I think it is more attractive and eye-catching in that way.

Sample Work - Criterion B
Teacher's Assessment
This is my best sample work because I was able to get the best score which was 8/8. I am really happy of this achievement as all of my hard work was paid off. This assignment is important because if there is no design, it would be hard for me to batik as I have no expected result.
I think I did well in creating 4 designs and explaining each of its meanings thoroughly. I also wrote reasons why I chose that particular design instead of the other designs.
I don't think I made any mistakes as I got a perfect score.
This sample work shows that I am a thinker because I provided detailed annotation for each of the 4 designs and I decided which design was the best and wrote the reason why I chose it. For example, I chose Nusa Tenggara Timur's traditional house as a part of my design because houses are an important part of culture because without it, we will not have shelter. I chose the colour brown because Nusa Tenggara Timur's traditional house is made of wood and the colour of wood is brown. The pattern found in the design is a textile from Nusa Tenggara Timur called tenun rote and I chose it because it is a famous textile of Indonesia. I also showed communicators because I was able to think of many ideas and draw 4 designs which were creative and colourful. I was able to develop 4 feasible design ideas and I was able to use different aspects of Nusa Tenggara Timur's culture. I used a different aspect for each of the designs so that each one of them would be unique.
