Field Trip to West Kalimantan
In this Interdisciplinary Unit (IDU), I visited an area in Indonesia, which was West Kalimantan. I went to three districts, which were Pontianak, Singkawang and Monterado. In those places, I explored the topic of Poverty and the subjects that were involved in this IDU were Civics, Physical & Health Education (PHE) and Mathematics. For the subject of Civics, I learned about the local government activities that are applied in that area to reduce poverty and its effects on the people. I interviewed the head of a village in the sub-district of Monterado and also the head of a local health centre. For PHE, I surveyed several students in a school in Pontianak and another school in Monterado. We surveyed them regarding their intake of calories, fats and protein per day by asking them what they ate in the past two days. For Mathematics, I had to create tables and graphs so that we were able to compare and analyse the information we received from our PHE survey. Other than that, I also had the opportunity to explore the beauty and culture of the places that I visited. In the end, I had to create a documentary video with my group, Albert and Alessandro.
